The bright lights of Douglas....still the world's number one city.

I remember riding on the “chair lift” with my Dad, Mum and Gran in 1957 when I was just 3. Dad had stayed at the camp as a young man. No recollection of what we did at the top, just riding up on my Dad’s knee!

I slowed it right down to be able to look at the pictures better, as some great old views.

I worked there for 2 seasons about 1968. The bar manager for the first year was Dougie (Cowley?) Much simpler times.

Oh, great collection.....brought back so many great memories of my childhood, having been born and raised in Linden Grove!... the HolidayCamp was all round us and a wonderful “ Playground” for so many years...thank you!

O hell yes.what a blast from past. Loved going there in the early 1970,s in them days .lived in castle town. So was a real treat to go there. Loved the goast train ride.

Lots of holiday makers used to send kippers home for their families from Douglas in the 50s and 60s went many times with grandparents and parents took my mates there on three great holidays 71.72.73.loved the place scared of going back because been told the place has changed that much .I know I would be upset with all the great memories that I have of them holidays with my family and then my friends some of the best days of my life

The toboggan down the hill was great-only ever saw it here, and in Barcelona.

Wow the nostalgia! I first visited the park in 1981/2 and couldn’t wait to ride on the swan boats on the lake. Bringing back so many memories, thanks for sharing

last time i was in douglas.i.o.m was 1968..i remember --strand street--.loved going in the ice cream parlour for for a -knicker bocker glory..i was 18 ....i was about 9 years old , my aunt took me to strand st and bought me my first pair of --green cuban heeled shoes..i loved them..mum hated me wearing them. first signs of them wearing out , she binned them..i was heartbroke and ive never forgave her.lo..my aunt ran the --castlemere hotel--.so we had free holidays a few years ago i was thinking another visit..mum said dont, its changed that much it would upset you..so i went on google maps.she was right i cried for ages, i didnt recognise the place...well ive got my memoriesxxl.

Great set of photos. The ones towards the end: is that the 60s/70s/80s when Cunninghams became "Douglas Holiday Camp"?

Worked on it in the fifties as a lad, pushing the carriages off as shown in the video. Often my workmate and myself would jump in for a free ride ( if there wasn't a queue ) especially if there were 2 pretty girls taking a ride !

Excellent Neil !!! This is very rare footage. Thanks very much for sharing this with the whole world ! I remember reading about it when it was offered for sale in the 70's. The owners said that the chain-lift was steam driven !!!
